Vision
-
HCI is a medical mission agency whose goal is to build a model of providing health care for poor women and children in developing countries. This model includes the provision of primary and surgical care and seeks to equip and train local providers of that care.
-
We send short term medical and surgical mission teams that can work with local providers of care for support and training.
-
We seek to establish permanent clinics that can operate with local providers of care. These primary care clinics would use evidence based prevention and treatment strategies for common childhood illnesses, and will also develop a data base of children with surgical or specialized needs for referral to the short term mission teams for treatment.
-
With the ever increasing access of computer and internet technology even in developing countries , HCI envisions the possibility of linking local physicians and surgeons to US counterparts for consultation and training purposes.
-
Unlike other international agencies that send short term medical teams that work independently from local providers, HCI seeks to act as an agent of change to eliminate the economic, educational and infrastructure barriers to care of the poor by local physicians and surgeons
Values and Operating Principles
-
We believe in the inherent dignity of all human life and that high quality health care should be accessible to all regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or religious belief.
-
We are committed to networking with other individuals and organizations to link available resources with need and to eliminate duplication of effort.
-
We work to ensure that the poorest have the highest quality of care and sufficient resources to provide that care.
-
We partner with local, in country, organizations whose purpose is service to the poor of their own country to enhance, support and encourage their effort.
-
We believe that volunteer short-term missionaries, by their presence and willingness to give their time and service, bring hope to the poor and receive in exchange an awareness of their own dignity and worth. This awareness leads to a sense of responsibility to give out of the abundance they have had the privilege to receive.
-
We believe that each country and situation has special and unique circumstances requiring ongoing research, collaboration and effort to define best practice for treating common problems. We are committed to continually evaluate our efforts and seek better ways to provide care given the unique cultural, economic, and social conditions of the country we are working in.
