Gisele was born with a serious congenital defect requiring a colostomy at birth. At age 2, Gisele was incorrectly surgically repaired. After years of severe pain and the inability to consume solid food, Gisele was extremely weak and her bowel was drastically enlarged. Upon examination, it was clear that she would need three to four corrective surgeries in order to regain normal health. Her biggest question before her first surgery was, 'Will I be able to eat food again?' When told,"Yes, you will," she smiled a huge smile.
Gisele had surgery again the following year and the third year. When she returned the third year, she was anxious to have her surgeries completed. HCI's surgery team was able complete her repair and at the age of 16. She was finally free of a colostomy!
